About Us
An introduction to Brigantia
We are Brigantia Creative, a charity established in 2020 by local stakeholders in North Kirklees, to provide community voice and creative capacity in this part of West Yorkshire.
We are based in Dewsbury a ‘ priority place’ for investment and development and an area of rich cultural heritage and diversity. We believe that access to culture and creativity should be for everyone and we are committed to opening up opportunities for people to take part in the arts and creativity of all kinds, in the places where they live, socialise, work, and play. We are thinkers, producers, facilitators, project managers, artists, evaluators, partners and collaborators. We are making great creative things happen in our towns, parks, social clubs, pop ups and public spaces. Named after the ancient Celtic goddess, who unified the tribes of the North, bringing together different people and traditions, and in doing so enabling a flourishing of arts and cultures.
So, Where Did Brigantia Come From?
We are the team that hosted Arts Council England's (ACE) Creative People and Places (CPP) programme, ‘Creative Scene’, for over 12 years- a partnership of local stakeholders that brought in £8m+ of funding, generating hundreds of projects, events and activities that reached tens of thousands of people. The Creative Scene programme created hundreds of new opportunities for artists and performers of all kinds to engage with and co-create with people of all ages, many of these had not taken part in arts and cultural activities regularly before.

How we work
We engage with partners, community groups and people, listen to their ideas and co-create projects- from the ground up.
We put people, place and planet at the heart of everything we do. Our delivery model is based on an experienced core team of creative producers and project managers, supported by an established network of artists, facilitators, event managers and thinkers. We bring the right people together to listen to and shape ideas, and to produce and present events and activities that inspire, inform and celebrate. We are savvy, active and solution-focused: getting things done, working honestly with partners and communities, and meeting the real challenges facing people in the North of England today.

Our Track Record
Over 12 years , our team have worked with communities and groups across Kirklees to ‘make the arts a part of every day life’. From Parking a Poem in a biscuit factory, to lighting up a lake with fiery sculptures, intimate poems and stories from experiences of the pandemic and lockdowns, to celebration of our heritage, towns and talents. These reports and films highlight some of our very best projects over the years, the transformative effect on individuals and the special celebrations of our people and places.
